How many of you want to work with brands? Are you a blogger that would like to earn an income through blogging?
I’m sure many of you are saying, “Yes! I would!”
I’m thrilled when an opportunity comes my way from this space I have here. I don’t jump at every dollar sign that’s flashed in front of me or review every product I get an email about, but I do love campaigns that have a product that fits my lifestyle and offer a fair compensation for my time and/or ad space.
I love supporting brands that support this blog.
Working with brands is a blessing.
About a week ago I wrote this sponsored post. After sharing the link on social media, I received a snarky comment on my Facebook page about it. It wasn’t the worst comment in the world, but it was rude nonetheless.
“This is the second sponsored post I have read for fruit water, and sorry, but I think it’s cheesy and hard to take your post seriously! Just sayin.”
At first, I was taken back. The suppressed people pleaser in me surfaced and for one second I cared what this person thought. Naturally, I want everyone that “likes” my Facebook page to actually like me.
Woah! Do all my readers feel this way?
Do they hate when I write a sponsored post?
Then? I snapped out of it!
I just don’t see what the big deal is if a blogger wants to take advantage of some of the opportunities that are out there.
After the initial reaction I had to the comment passed, I was actually kinda happy about having received some snark. After three years of blogging, I have never gotten snarky comments on the blog or elsewhere. Have I finally arrived?
People are entitled to their opinions and as long as it’s not profanity, hateful, or directed to my readers I don’t really mind. Don’t even mess with my tribe!
The comment was directed to me and although rude and unnecessary, sparked this post and cured my blogger’s block. Snark is a positive.
I decided to leave the comment up and I even responded.
“Wow. We all have to make a living and most people understand that. If it’s not your thing, move on. Why take the time to comment here about it?”
Sometimes this blogging thing forces me to have a thick skin. It helps me to speak my mind and not care if everyone will like it. I guess that’s how I feel about this topic. In the end, I think my loyal readers and blog friends would be happy for me to have the opportunity to make money from this blog. Naturally, I’m not writing about water every day and I try to spread my reviews, giveaways, and sponsored content out. That’s how I make it work for me right now, and I hope it works for you too.
I’ve gone back and forth about the pros and cons of writing sponsored posts in my mind a thousand times. And I always come back to this opinion:
Don’t let others hate on you because you’ve “sold out” or take a day here or there to use your blog to make money. Your blog is your space to do what you want with it!
I’m thrilled that there’s a market out there that allows some of the opportunities we have as bloggers.Writing sponsored content from time to time is one of the ways I support this blog and there’s nothing wrong with that.
