Sibling rivalry is an expected challenge when you have more than one child.
Right?
But, lately my kids are driving me to drink crazy with all of their bickering.
Yesterday, I almost offered them up for trade on craigslist.
My kids for your iPad
No?
It’s that fussy, whining, ridiculous kind of arguing and it just gets under my skin and sort of makes me want to freak out!
SO…
I take a deep breathe and turn to my savior. Because, if Jesus can’t help me…
…well, let’s not even go there, because if Jesus can’t help than we have a real problem, sistas!
We need peace in our home today, and I have that loving conviction that it needs to start with me.
Yup. Me.
Sigh…
The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. ~Proverbs 14:1
Every so often I do that really hard thing we all need to do sometimes and take a good hard look in the mirror.
Lately, what I see looking back at me is someone that isn’t enjoying life very much.
I’m just going through the motions of the day-to-day and not appreciating the blessings that are right in front of me.
I’m rushing to the end of each day hoping that I find some peace and quiet at night, only to fall asleep before I get the chance.
Then, another morning comes and I’m aggravated before the day even begins.
I need a heart check.
The kids arguing and bickering has lead me to realize that the peace we all need in our home is not found in the quiet of night, but within our own hearts.
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.~ Luke 6:45
I need to refresh, rejuvenate, and find my smile.
I truly believe that our children are a reflection of us, and mine doesn’t look so hot right now.
Yes, sibling rivalry is natural, but I can’t ignore the call to look inside my own heart and do a little work there.
Because, let’s face it, yelling at my kids and complaining about them complaining isn’t really working.
Do everything without complaining or arguing…then you will shine like stars. ~Philippians 2:14-15

Such a great post! I have gone through the motions a lot too this summer – my circumstances have been difficult and my kids have been at each other’s throats, but I do not have to let that interfere with my outook in life. Thank you for the reminder of that!

Wow, I have had those moments! It always happens when I do no start my day with Him, and/or go to Him as my stress begins to build…Ugh! Within just a day or two I am back in the mud again, feeling like a cranky miserable momma. Thank you for sharing! Adding the Seinfeld video just was icing on the cake.

Good reminder to look inward.
I’m not a huge Seinfeld fan (I know I’m probably the only one) but that clip is awesome.

Don’t you miss Seinfeld?! I loved that show. So funny!
You are so right that our kids are a reflection of our own states & moods. My 5 y/o is off the wall with anxiety when home life is too stressful. After seeing TWO behavior therapists hubs & I realized it’s time to move to a less stressful place. I’m bookmarking this page as a reminder for ME to look in the mirror. Thank you for this post.

Yes, the kids definitely internalize our emotions. I wish I had more self control to recognize this more, but I’m not perfect. Thanks for coming by!
My boys have been fighting like crazy the past few days- and it just makes me yell, which makes things worse.
This afternoon, we took a break and got out and had some fun and that helped a lot.

Fabulous post! A wonderful reminder of the mirrors our children are for us. My daughters’ fighting has been on high speed lately – thanks for the reminder to look at my own behavior and attitudes. Well done!

I totally relate to this and the need to check my own heart and intentions. It’s so easy to project and blame everyone else for the bickering or general crabbiness in the house but really, it does start somewhere and it’s often my own attitude and how I choose to perceive a situation. Great post and thank you for the reminder.

I’m glad you liked it. It’s tough to admit that the attitudes in the house are a reflection of my own, but it’s usually always true.
You’ve been to my house?
This is a great reminder. I’m getting my rejuvenation right now, as my children are with their father, but thank you for the reminder to use the time wisely and really reflect. YOu’ve got me really appreciating the laugh I had with a friend this mornig!
