Ya’ll, where are Max and Ruby’s parents?
Poor Ruby is forced to raise Max alone. That’s probably why she has a bad case of the bossypants. She has to be bossy. It’s like her coping mechanism or something. Without her parents, her life feels out of control, so she latches onto the only thing she can control. Her 3 yr. old brother.
I decided to do some research on the Max and Ruby, because I need something to blog about this is a very important matter.
Look at poor Max being dragged around by his big sister, Ruby. Max seems very stressed and Ruby is clearly in denial. Nick, Jr. says that your child will “learn kindness, working together, and listening to others”.
Although, that may be true, they will also learn that kids don’t need parents. Max and Ruby get by just fine on their own. Sure, they both need therapy, but they get by.
The blip before the show exclaims that it will “explore family values”. Um, ok.
I get that not every family looks the same, but these kids don’t even have a guardian.
Every once in a while they might get a visit from Grandma.
She lives next door. Right.next.door.
Oddly, she does not take them in. She just visits every once in a while to make sure they have food and water and stuff.
In fact, lots of people visit Max and Ruby. Friends, neighbors, whoever. They come for a visit, see that Max and Ruby are holding up just fine, and then leave. Hmm?
There are never any calls to Child Protective Services? Does Nick, Jr. edit those episodes out?
I thought for a minute that maybe Ruby is older than I thought, but I have confirmed that is not the case.
“Ruby is Max’s older sister and this second-grader loves to show her little brother how to do things.”~Nick Jr.
“…loves to show her brother how to do things”? Mmm Hmm. We know.
And remember, Max is only three.
I’m pretty sure this is not legal.
I think this is more a sad story of loss and neglect and less a story of “exploring family values”. Just sayin…
Does anyone know what happened to their parents?
Hopefully this is not them buried in the backyard.
You have to admit, Ruby does look a little suspicious…

I am laughing my butt off over here. I have never seen an episode of this but chalk it up to another show that kids love that has a confusing message. It’s right up there with Calliou, the whiny bald child and every show that shows kids that their parents are dumb and they know better. If we did a drinking came every time a child rolled their eyes at their parents on Disney or Nickelodeon, we’d all be drunk!

Oh, thanks so much for the laugh today. We LOVED Max and Ruby when our girls were little. The history behind the books is interesting.
The author, Rosemary Wells, had two children, five yr old Victoria and 9 mo old sister “Beezo”. In the book Worlds of Childhood, Beezo was described as a Houdini, and Victoria as attempting to constantly train her, albeit unsuccessfully. Wells had just finished writing a kids book that was roundly rejected by her editor. She sat at her writing board listening to Victoria “Emily Post” downstairs with Beezo, and-Voila!-Max and Ruby were created, and the book Max’s First Word was written, in just six hours.
In answer to your post, perhaps the mom is upstairs, tapping away at her computer keys, writing her heart out, hollering to the kids, “I’ll be there in just a minute! I need to write just a little bit more! ”

Maybe I should I embrace the absent parent technique? It would be so much more fun for me!
This show is so messed up! I seriously have issues with so many cartoons because they are so WEIRD. For example – Max and Ruby. You are correct – they should end up in cps! And Caillou should end up in whiner’s jail. And Phinneus and Ferb should just be in jail.

Why are all the kids shows full of whiny brats? Honestly, my original post had a whole list of annoying kids, but it was a little long, and I decided to cut some of it. But I could go on and on and on…

So strange, right?!
I laughed so hard that I had to tell my kids what was so funny. Max and Ruby and Calliou are super annoying. Dora has always gotten to me too. Why is her head so huge, and why is she allowed to go traipsing around the jungle on her own. I mean, I know her parents are busy with twin babies, but come on! She’s dealing with wild animals and creepy little men in the woods. They really should keep a better watch on her!

My kids adore Max and Ruby – and my husband and I have spent many a sleepless night wondering just the same thing: where are their parents??? (Even my 4.5 year old has asked me that lately…) It’s especially worrisome when big sister is in charge of feeding and bathing her little brother; I’m wondering how long before my daughter thinks she needs to be doing that for her little bunny, I mean brother.

So true! It’s remarkable the things we find hidden in these ‘wholesome’ tv shows. Years ago, I wrote a post on Rabbit’s temper from My Friends Tigger and Pooh!

I think Max and Ruby is the strangest thing!
12 years after it was first aired the producers of Max and Ruby have finally announced the physiological aspect behind it. The reason why there are no parents is because they died in a car accident on there way to pick Ruby up from Bunny Scouts. Max was in the car at the time and survived, but suffers from serious brain injuries, hence the reason why he always messes up in the show and Ruby is the mother figure and has to look after him and fix the problems. Max is mute because their grandmother molested him at a young age and he is so traumatized that he created Super Bunny as an imaginary hero to somehow save him from his life. He plays with ambulance and police cars because he remembers those vehicles being there during the accident.
I always thought it was because their parent(s) were always at work (although I came across your entry wondering the same thing haha). I did have someone to look after me, but I’d imagine a lot of people can’t afford that and can only have a limited amount of babysitting money so Ruby had to be in charge and be older than her age most of the time. I like shows like this because they’re not cookie cutter and gave others (like me) another view on family relations that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have gotten. But that’s just my experience, maybe somebody else became screwy from it, hopefully not. The producers should give a background to what really happened with their parents though, dispelling that conspiracy stuff. So curious!
These two are so stupid I’m sure Elmer Fudd would not have any problems bagging them.
Wily E. Coyote ate their parents.
I have thought about all these concerns my self and even though its good for the kids to be independent, it’s also very important to have a parent or a guardian present…… It’s just obvious! My son loves max and rubi but idk I think the producers of this show are missing something here, just saying……..
So this question on wheres the parants. Well you know how Ruby is in bellet and Bunny Scouts? Well one day her gramma was picking her up and Max was with their parents. Well while picking up Rudy Max got in a car accident. Killing his parents, and causing him brain damage. This is why hes always playing with cop cars, cars, an fire cars. Cuz the accident is all he remembers. And yes the grams lives right next door, but she raped Max. Which is also why he doesn’t really talk. And why she doesn’t always come over. And yes Ruby now is responsible for her.lil brother. He is very stressed out. But not because shes just bossy. And so she is daniel, just not the reason you thought it was. By the way, Im 13 and NO Im not making this up. I literally just found this out today -.- I hope this helped
