Last weekend, I turned off my phone, let the blog go, and just focused on my family.
I took some time for me, and hung out with my girlfriends over dinner and a Bible study we’re doing together.
Ruth, By Kelly Minter. If anyone would like a fantastic summer study, check it out. I love Kelly Minter. Her writing style is just perfect for me. She’s someone I would totally be friends with in real life.
Sunday we went to church as a family. Ya know, with my husband. God is so good!
After that, we took the boys to the beach. I decided not to bring a book or a camera. I wanted to soak up the sun and my boys. I was able to have a one-on-one chat with my oldest. He had a chance to really talk to me, and share something that has been on his mind. It was wonderful. Had I had my nose in a book, he wouldn’t have been able to do that, and I would have missed out on hearing something I really needed to know.
When we were done at the beach, we went for ice cream, and then we ended the day with a wonderful dinner together at the table.
The last couple of days have been a beautiful first glimpse of our summer. Time away from the blog refreshes me, and time to reflect is a necessary part of the writing process.
We have to live life to be able to write about it!
Yesterday, I spent the day with my sister and my niece. No blog. not a whole lot of phone. I didn’t respond to emails, and it felt good. We went from thrift store to thrift store with the kids. This was half fun, and half chaos. But, mostly fun. Just enjoying the chaos was therapeutic. I mean, if I can thrift shop with a 3 year old, a teenager with severe OCD, and an active 7 year old, I’m pretty sure I can do anything!
Then, I decided it was a good idea to let my 3 year old niece spend the night with us.
HOW DO YOU TODDLER MOMS DO IT? I’m very tired…
After taking some time with family, and friends, and myself. I realize I need to take some time with God, too.
Take some time time today to disconnect from all of this, and re-connect with your family and your Creator.
Inspiration is all around us, if we just take the time to see it.
Over the weekend, I didn’t even waste time with a camera or mobile pics, instagram, or any of that, so I don’t even have any pictures to share with you.
But, the memories we made are forever ingrained in my mind, and the much needed reminder is stored in my heart.
I can share that.
Less is more!
I’m doing less some more today.
I love you all!

I try to do that all the time, just not be on the computer and just be doing whatever and honestly I got “in trouble” for that a few weeks ago. I’m (or was) a part of SparkPeople and I was on one of their Biggest Loser teams. Well apparently since I decided not to post anything on the chat thread, I was kicked off the team with no explanation or anything. The problem with places like that is the people involved do not attempt to have lives, they are literally on their computers waiting to comment on the next thread.
But I wouldn’t have changed that decision to not do anything for the world! I needed it!!

You have hit upon a few of my favorite things: church, beach, family time, ice cream. I could feel the sun on my face and my toes scrunching in the warm sand as I read your post.
What you have described is real, true downtime, and it is delicious. Thanks so much for sharing, and reminding us to take that very important time!

I agree with you when you say we have to go out and live life to be able to write about it. I haven’t written a blog in a week, mainly because I hadn’t been able to check my email in a week, mainly because I thought my phone was disconnected, and I couldn’t log on, but during that time I couldn’t use the computer but to check social media sites, so much happen. Maybe when I get the chance, and when the Holy Spirit helps me come with the words, I will write about it. Thanks for inspiring me in your blog. God bless you.

You got it! Sometimes I feel like I’m just rambling and wasting time trying to post when I have nothing of substance to say. Sometime we just need to be still.

I totally get it! I had a girls weekend away, and totally unplugged. It was so freeing, actually. I was so recharged, and ready to come home and be Mom. With starting the website, the hardest thing has been to divide my time, and my goal for the summer is to set better working hours so I have more separation and can be a more present Mom. I won’t look back wishing I wrote another post, but I will wish for one more Summer afternoon with my kiddos! Thanks for the reminder to just enjoy.

Yup! That’s just it. I really want to try to be “OK” stepping away from this whenever I want without blog guilt. My family is priority, and everything else will fall into place.

I need to take a leaf out of your book. Though I have been doing a lot less online. Mostly because I can’t even sit down, let alone turn on my laptop!
Enjoy your time with your family.

Such an inspiration and a wonderful reminder! We are having an old-fashioned summer (not spending much money, or using too much gas, LOL). And I’m actually looking forward to it!

I have been ignoring my computer A LOT this week and have been intentionally ignoring my phone. I haven’t felt this great in weeks, months even. You are so right that we have to live life in order to write about it and I was letting too many things happen without taking notice of them. I keep saying I won’t let it happen but I do. This is something that I have to make a priority. Life can be amazing if you actually live it!

I felt like you were talking directly to me and I need to do more of that … just letting go and seeing the things around me to take advantage of the opportunities that arise (and not necessarily be concerned with documenting them) Thanks!
